How to Review Your Year in Health

It’s the time of year when we tend to look back on what we accomplished in the past twelve months as well as what we want to see happen in the year to come.  Read on for our tips on how to review your year in health.

What was your starting point?

Back on Jan. 1, how was your health?  If you have a chronic condition, what was your treatment plan, and how well-controlled were your symptoms?

What were your goals for the year?

Whether or not you set concrete goals, you probably had an idea of where you wanted to be by the end of the year.  Now’s the time to write them down if you hadn’t already.

Did you face any setbacks?

Take an honest look at any challenges you faced during the year.  How did you respond to them?  Could you have responded more constructively, or did you tackle them with aplomb?  What did you learn from during the process?

What were your big (and small) achievements for the year?

In what areas did you succeed in health?  Did you improve your cholesterol levels?  Did you find ways to lessen your symptoms?  Did you find a new treatment plan that improved your life?  Maybe you took up a new, active hobby like yoga or daily walking.  Whatever you did to improve your health this year, write it down and be proud of yourself.

Start thinking about goals for the new year.

The overview you’ve just created can help you determine what worked in 2015 and what you want to make work better in 2016.  We’ll tackle some goal-setting strategies in our next post (and last for 2015!), but an important part of the process is looking at what we can learn from our past and current experiences.
