HyQvia Infusion Therapy

See why thousands of patients choose our centers as their preferred destination for ongoing care, including HyQvia Infusion treatments.

HyQvia is a biologic therapy that is indicated to treat:

HyQvia is primarily indicated for the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Primary immunodeficiency (PI) in people 2 years and older
  • Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIPD) in adults

Referring providers also have the option to order HyQvia off-label, which will require additional approvals from the patient’s health plan.

What is HyQvia?

HyQvia is an immune globulin product designed for subcutaneous (SQ) infusion, which means  means beneath, or under, all layers of the skin. HyQvia combines human immune globulin with recombinant human hyaluronidase (rHuPH20), which helps the immune globulin spread more easily under the skin. The immune globulin component provides antibodies to help protect against infections, while the hyaluronidase facilitates the absorption of the immune globulin.

What is HyQvia used for?

HyQvia is used to provide immunoglobulin replacement therapy for patients with primary immunodeficiency. The antibodies in HyQvia help to support the immune system and reduce the frequency and severity of infections. It can be used as a maintenance therapy to maintain healthy immune function in patients with compromised immune systems.

HyQvia Infusion Dosage and Administration

The dosing and administration of HyQvia are individualized based on factors like body weight and patient response. Generally, HyQvia is administered subcutaneously, with a typical dosing frequency of every 3 to 4 weeks. The specific dosage is calculated based on the patient’s body weight and adjusted over time to achieve the desired serum IgG levels.

HyQvia requires careful preparation, and administration must be performed by trained healthcare professionals. Typically, the procedure involves:

  • Pre-administration Preparations: Ensure patients are well-hydrated and aware of any necessary pre-medications.
  • Infusion Technique: Administered subcutaneously, often at one or multiple sites on the body, such as the abdomen or thighs.
  • Monitoring: Patients are monitored during and after administration for any adverse reactions.

HyQvia Infusion Side Effects

Like any medical therapy, HyQvia can have side effects. Common side effects may include:

  • Local reactions at the infusion site (e.g., redness, swelling, pain, or itching)
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Nausea

Rare but more serious side effects can occur, such as:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Aseptic meningitis
  • Blood clots
  • Kidney problems

Patients should always be informed about potential side effects and know when to seek medical attention.
